Victory day is a national holiday in Bangladesh celebrated on December-16 to commemorate the victory of the Bangladesh forces over the Pakistani forces in the Bangladesh liberation war in 1971. This day and event is also commemorated across India as well as Bangladesh to honour Bangladeshi and Indian martyrs who laid down their lives in the war. In 1971 Bangladesh fought for the liberation war that ended of the nine month long against Pakistan to become an independent country, which resulted from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and established the sovereign nation on 16 December 1971 which is called Bangladesh. The Pakistan armed force’s lieutenant General Amir Abdullah khan Niazi surrendered to the lieutenant general Jagjit Singh Aurora, Joint commander of Indian and Bangladesh forces after nine month long at the Ramna Racecourse in Dhaka on 16 December 1971. Then most of the nations recognized Bangladesh within months of its independence. The celebration of victory day has been taking place since 1972.
